Matilda Ibini

Writer

Matilda is a writer from London. She graduated from London Metropolitan University with a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. Her first play ‘Popcorn’ was shortlisted for the Soho Young Writers Award 2012 and her next play ‘Velociraptor’ was longlisted in the top 25 for the Verity Bargate Award 2013. She was a member of the Royal Court Writers Program and Soho Theatre’s Young Writers Group. Her debut play ‘Muscovado’ premiered in October 2014 for Black History Month at the Holy Trinity Church Clapham with BurntOut Theatre. ‘Muscovado’ was longlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award 2014 for Best New Play of the Year. ‘Muscovado’ toured the Uk 503 from February 2015 and was awarded 2015’s Alfred Fagon Audiences award. Matilda was also selected for the BBC Writersroom 10 Scheme as Soho Theatre’s writer in residence. She has also been awarded a Prince William scholarship supported by BAFTA and Warner Brothers to do an MA in Playwriting and Screenwriting at City University.
