This year marks Janet’s 40th year working in theatre as an actor, director, dramaturg, teacher and writing workshop leader.  After twelve years as an actress, Janet began directing in 1988 with Loose Change Theatre Company.

From 2003-2017 Janet was Artistic Director of Kali Theatre company, an award-winning touring company that has been presenting new writing by South Asian women for over 25 years.  Whist with Kali Janet directed over 100 readings of new plays and directed productions of Calcutta Kosher (2004 & 2012), Chaos, Paper Thin, Deadeye, Zameen, Another Paradise, Behna, Ghandi & Coconuts, Purnjanam/Born Again, Mustafa, My Daughter’s Trial, The Husbands, My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding, Mustafa, Twelve and The Dishonoured.

Currently Janet is a Freelance Director having recently worked for four years as Programme Manager for Creative Commonwealth, the Cultural Initiative of the Commonwealth Foundation.

Freelance directing credits include Behzti (The Rep), April in Paris, Bretevski Street, A Hard Rain, Top Girls (Northampton Royal), Millennium Mysteries, Big School (Belgrade Coventry). Janet has also directed at a number of plays at Drama Schools which include East 15, Mountview, Rose Bruford and LAMDA.
